Why I Chose 5-MeO-DMT?

Reflections

Sitting on my patio, watching my flowers and herbs being still and content are bringing me a tremendous amount of peace. The occasional dives of a hummingbird or two with their high-speed wings almost certainly bring a sense of awe and a smile across anybody in their presence.

This quiet presence and contentment are reminiscent of my childhood in China, where my parents chose to build out a rural home that offered sanctuary to humans, animals, and plants alike. I would like to do that wherever I am in this lifetime, to build and contribute to beautiful, abundant, and sustainable ecosystems and communities on Earth and make good use of all that we already have and grow what has yet to come.

Medicine of Our Time

It is a special medicine we facilitate—I did not think in my wildest dreams this would be my life and work in my 30s. Yet here we are: Doing the most meaningful work for me at this point in my life. It is a precious thing that I get to work with this medicine legally in my home country of Canada, in which we have an awesome healing ecosystem on our land of the Pacific Northwest.

My journey to our current sanctuary has been symbiotic with what has become our medicine, 5-MeO-DMT. I met my life and business partner Sagan in this house when it was a family home, but what this house has always been good at is facilitating gatherings. When we come together for our flagship Self Contact Retreat here, our community is working with the sanctuary and land to share love, acceptance, and space with you and for you to blossom and flourish.

5-MeO-DMT is my favourite psychedelic—the most transformative, real, and inspiring entheogen I have experienced and the most effective psychedelic I have facilitated, with benefits beyond our intentions, awareness, and consciousness and also within all of the above. It sings the goodness in humanity, celebrates trust and surrender in this experience of life, and dances first-hand experiences and explorations.

I believe it is the medicine of our time, because it supports us in thriving on our wisdom and experiences and shedding our burdens and fears. It helps us honour what made us us and deepen and rise with courage and pride. It allows us to have a human experience, connecting to nature, our own body, and the community of all that we are and all that we care about inside of us. With us developing internal clarity of who we are and what is important to us, we then strengthen and attract those qualities around us. It opens us to experience, feel, and appreciate our connection to ourselves, each other, and our surroundings, so we get to pay attention more to what makes us happy, enjoy it, and prioritize it. With us diving into what is most important to us, we get to carve out the good and treasure it, and consciously leave behind what doesn’t or no longer serves.

5-MeO-DMT, My Friend

The medicine has become my friend—It is a friend that prefers to watch from afar and feels content and puts on a smile when I am doing well. It doesn’t like me crawling back to it in desperation, but prefers to have deep and meaningful conversations and experiences when I create the space in my life to bathe in the river of the universe.

It feels like an elder and creation itself. It has absolutely convinced me that we are creators of our own reality—We all are: We are all creating in this moment across time and space. How we are affects those around us—A smile can brighten any room (across space), grief can help us reconcile and have peace with the past (across time), and our visions for the future can help us clarify what are the steps we wish to take now (across time). So go do some good and feel good in the process too!

Our medicine is known for oneness, interconnectedness, infinity, non-duality, and the like. I would like to share that these are not concepts that are out there, but in the peace and sensitivity of in here inside each and every one of us. We may need to overcome our worries, anxiety, suspicion, and agitation to calm the fuck down and feel intimately again to what I like to call a “universal frequency” or “creation energy,” because it truly feels universal—When I tune in and hang out in this state, everything seems awesome and right and every person and dog treats me well. When I trust that and play with that I am the creator too: I smile at what is possible and see everyone and everything around me as allies of the future we will build together and stop feeling defeated, desolate, and desperate.

The value I notice this medicine brings for people is that it undercuts all the layers of tiredness, ego, superiority or inferiority, bitterness, and jadedness to our shared humanity, universality, and the greatness of life. We then get to be alive in this universe and experience all of it. My favourite analogy is we are all waves in the ocean—We are all unique and yet we are all part of the ocean. We form and crash, but we never leave and disappear. When I had this recognition, I live in peace and treasure the experience of this life without concern that I would go to hell or others would, because I recognize that I am also part of the creation and evolution of the universe. We are all capable of choosing peace and love and because we all have hearts, we get to make those qualities infectious. I would never underestimate the ability of each and every one of us to create peace in the world by being peace. Be kind to others, be gentle to others, help someone out, and be gracious about it.

Dance with the Medicine

The medicine cannot heal the world alone—It is a powder without us. We need to be the ones gardening, cleaning, cooking, gathering, building, and loving for ourselves, our families, and communities to be healthy and well. We get to create our lives and take care of our land and sea through devotion, courage, and love and experience the disappointment and grief, triumph and richness—human experiences that we get to enjoy with our mind, body, and soul in this lifetime. 5-MeO-DMT has helped me appreciate the beauty of my life and develop enough wisdom to realize much of life’s enjoyment is based on a good attitude and a recognition that it is a privilege to live.

When you have made sincere efforts to live fully with tools that life has already gifted you, 5-MeO-DMT likes to work wonders with you. The medicine appreciates tenderness and sweetness and gives back to those who are willing to give in life. Giving does not mean sacrificing or exhausting yourself, but surrendering to life’s ease, flow, and joy, which the medicine could show you and help you feel.

Perfect Mess of Life

Life is not only perfect when everything is perfect. Life is perfect in every moment, because we at all times are experiencing the magic of consciousness in our own human forms, yet at the same time are inevitably part of an expansive consciousness that we all share—We get to have this experience. Know that you are never alone and trust that you get to enjoy yourself. Do the little things for yourself and others in life and give yourself and others permission to rest, laugh, and be.

Living a full and interesting life doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with challenges. Conversely, it most likely comes with a lot of predicaments because you care. However, you get to choose to savour and find satisfaction in the good you have created and do and notice how life and others support you. Being well also doesn’t mean not having desperate moments, of depression, anxiety, hopelessness, or suicide ideation. They are parts of us that want to let go, that need to die in the sense of transitioning to the next stage of this life, but we don’t need to be consumed by those moments—They will pass in the river of life, so just love and be gentle with yourself in that process.

Pay attention to what you are actually doing every day. What are you feeding? Because that is the world you are going to live in epicentred around you the next moment, day, month, and year. Plant the seed you wish to sow.

In the awesome experience of your life, if you need a little help from the medicine and it feels like the right next step in all honesty, then reach out to us—We love working with humans who are ready to receive this medicine and experience the most beautiful love-making between you and the universe, which in my opinion, like the ocean analogy, you and the universe is one and the same.

Keep going guys and you are doing great.
